Darker Realms originated at Texas A&M University and ran for several years on available hardware, but we moved some time ago to paid private hosting. We are currently hosted at mythic-beasts.com, which is perhaps appropriate. The server costs are not high, but player donations help us add and maintain additional features like the ability to safely test changes, provide a web-based mud client to players, and run a WAR port of the mud. No advancement or game power will ever require a donation to access. There are some perks that come with donating, as follows: * Any $1 donation: Amethyst Tier, aka the Harry Special--A forever autoloading Darker Realms Patrons' Association membership medallion on one of your characters, which becomes a light source if polished by Naj. Inactive monthly donors revert to this tier. * Recurring $2/month donation: Silver Tier--The medallion provides you a customized silver cross and chain that only you can pick up and use. * Recurring $4/month donation: Gold Tier--Either add a gold cross and chain to your existing character's medallion, or get a medallion with a silver cross and chain for a second character. * Recurring $5/month donation: Mithril Tier--Either add a mithril cross and chain to your existing character's medallion, or add a third character. * Recurring $10/month donation: Adamantine Tier--A medallion with silver, gold, and mithril crosses for all of your characters. * If you'd like to donate a year at a time for any tier, you can do so at a reduced rate equal to 10 months' regular donation. $20 for silver, $100 for adamantine, etc. To do this, please contact Myrddin Emrys directly, as we don't do enough volume on Patreon to be eligible for annual donations there. Active silver and higher donors also have access to a Discord channel where they can discuss reasons they are superior to non-donors.
